The Stone of Awareness

Blue Howlite the “Stone of Awareness” is also known by some as “Turquoise Howlite” and even “Lapis Howlite”. It was named after Henry How who, in the 1800s, was a Canadian chemist, geologist, and mineralogist from Nova Scotia and was the first to describe the crystal.

Blue Howlite is a common crystal found primarily in Canada but can also be found in America, Germany, Mexico, Namibia, Pakistan, Russia and Turkey. It is a Calcium Borosilicate Hydroxide of the Borates mineral class of crystals and forms in nodular shapes, rather like the head of a cauliflower. Its colour is a bright blue with vein-like markings running through it.

Blue Howlite is a dyed version of White Howlite. It is a calming crystal that is used to reduce stress, anxiety and anger. It can slow an overactive mind and therefore can be beneficial for anyone who experiences insomnia, helping them to achieve deep and restful sleep. As expected of blue crystals its works with the Throat Chakra to help encourage emotional expression.

It encourages communication on different levels, including higher communication, as well as allowing the user to see the other person’s point of view and approach a discussion with a calm, clear head, and generally showing a way in which to meet a compromise. If you find yourself losing patience with someone or a situation; hold a piece in your hands and allow a sense of calm to wash over you. It will enhance creativity and creative expression by bringing inspiration to the mind. If worn, placed in a pocket or in a purse it can also absorb feelings such as anger, jealousy or spite.

Blue Howlite is not associated with any particular Goddess however, turquoise coloured crystals honour Sophia, the Greek Goddess of Wisdom.

Warrior

Blue Howlite is not associated with any particular Angel. However, it could be used to connect with Sandalphon who is known as the Angel of Glory and who carries human prayers to God so they may be answered. He can also be called on to help with music and to heal aggressive tendencies. His aura is the colour of turquoise.

Blue Howlite is primarily associated with the Throat Chakra (Vishuddha), relating to communication, and is from where you speak your truth. Howlite is also associated with all of the seven main chakras.

In crystal healing, Blue Howlite is said to help with illnesses and symptoms relating to the absorption of calcium into the bones and teeth, ADHD, bone disorders, circulatory system, dental problems, endocrine system, insomnia, lactation, memory, osteopenia, osteoporosis, pain relief for cramp and other physical pain.

Emotionally, Blue Howlite is said to assist with anxiety disorders, softening aggression and anger and bringing calm, contentment, happiness, peace and stabilising mood. It helps with letting go of unhealthy attachments, emotional pain, self-criticism, self-doubt, selfishness and thoughtlessness.

On a spiritual level, it helps with aura cleansing, aura clearing, connecting and communicating with spirit guides, meditation and past-life recall.

Blue Howlite is not a traditional or ancient birthstone but is a modern birthstone for the Zodiac sign of Gemini, 21st May to 20th June.

Blue Howlite is a perfect crystal for meditating with as it is a very calming crystal that will help you let go of stress and anxiety, promote serenity of mind and remove any distracting thoughts. It is said to help connect in past life journeys.

Important to Know

WARNING: Howlite is a soft crystal that can easily be scratched and absorb chemicals such as oils which can stain or discolour the crystal.

As with all crystals you use regularly, don’t forget to cleanse and recharge it at least once a month.
