Stone of Support

Dumortierite the “Stone of Support” and “Stone of Patience” was first described in 1881 and then named after Eugene Dumortier a French palaeontologist who was from Lyon. It is a commonly found crystal mainly from Brazil, Madagascar and Russia, although it is also mined in America, Canada, France, Poland, Norway, Italy, Mozambique, Namibia, and Sri Lanka.

It is an Aluminium Borosilicate of the silicates class of crystals. The dark blue (indigo) colour is the most common form of Dumortierite but it may also be found in a reddish-pink to brown and a lighter blue and is opaque in appearance.

Dumortierite is a crystal which can help in a traumatic situation or crisis helping you to remain calm and focus your thoughts on how to deal with the situation. It can also help with patience at stressful times, again allowing focus and self-discipline in order to take control of your life, particularly where there is chaos and/or lack of organisation.

As it is associated with the Throat Chakra it will encourage you to speak up when you feel you or others are being unfairly treated, and it will help in a creative way by allowing you to verbalise thoughts which is especially useful for public speakers or actors.

It is one of the crystals which can assist psychic communication with spirit guides and the Angelic Realm. Dumortierite may also be useful to help with soul purpose and past life issues which may have resulted in present-day disease, depression or addictions. Use it to examine past life contracts and agreements and renegotiate those that no longer serve you. It also aids in the understanding of karma and forgiveness, especially self-forgiveness.

Dumortierite is not associated with any particular Goddess. However, Sophia, the Greek Goddess of Wisdom, resonates with indigo coloured crystals.

Staying Calm & Patient

Dumortierite is not associated with any particular Angel. However, Archangel Zadkiel whose name means Righteousness of God and who is the Angel of Compassion and Forgiveness has a deep indigo blue aura and although he is associated with Lapis Lazuli you could also use Dumortierite to work with him.

Dumortierite is primarily associated with the Throat Chakra (Vishuddha), relating to communication, and is from where you speak your truth. Its secondary Chakras are the Crown Chakra (Sahasrara), relating to spiritual connection, understanding and enlightenment, and the Third Eye or Brow Chakra (Ajna), relating to insight, intuition, awareness and guidance. Dumortierite clears blockages in the chakras helping to move energy through the Meridian system.

In crystal healing, Dumortierite is said to help with symptoms relating to the following illnesses and areas of the body: carpal tunnel syndrome, colic in babies, cramps, diarrhoea, endocrine problems, epilepsy, headache and migraine relief, heart palpitations, hypersensitivity, inflammation, intestinal problems, mental clarity, nausea, sunburn, thyroid and parathyroid issues, travel sickness and vomiting. It may also be helpful for those with chronic illnesses and brain fog.

Emotionally, Dumortierite is said to assist with anxiety, depression, detachment, fear, inflexibility, insomnia, mental clarity, organisation, over-excitable behaviour, panic, patience, phobias, reducing stress or tension, self-confidence and self-worth, self-discipline, shyness, stage fright, stress and stubbornness.

Spiritually, Dumortierite is said to aid Angelic and spirit guide communication and connection, clairaudience, clairsentience, mediumship and past life recall.

Dumortierite is not a traditional or ancient birthstone but is a modern birthstone for the Zodiac sign of Leo (23rd July - 22nd August).

Dumortierite is not on the anniversary list.

Meditation

Dumortierite, when used during meditation, is said to be the crystal to enhance psychic communication with Angels and your spirit guides and to generally enhance all forms of psychic abilities. If used in daily meditation it can assist in reconnecting to past life memories to renegotiate or rescind outdated vows and contracts. It can also help you raise your own vibrational energy.

When you practise meditation daily and regularly with this crystal, it can help you reconnect to past lives and assists in raising your own vibrational energy. If placed on the Soma Chakra (Pineal Gland or past life chakra) found midway between the Third Eye and the Crown Chakra, it can activate past life memories. It is then possible to go back to the beginning of your soul journey to look at contracts and agreements you have made over each lifetime and can help with renegotiating these if they are no longer applicable by breaking the ties and bonds that no longer serve and facilitates the rescinding of vows.

Important to Know

WARNING: Make sure not to expose Dumortierite to too much heat because it can permanently change its colour.

As with all crystals you use regularly, don’t forget to cleanse and recharge it at least once a month.

For crystal healers who use crystals in their work, they should be cleansed after each client to remove any negative energy prior to being used on someone else.
