The Dolphin's Stone

Larimar, the “Soulmate Finder” and “Calming Stone”; is also known as “Atlantis Stone”, “Pectolite”, “Dolphin's Stone” and “Stefilias Stone.” Whilst Pectolite was first described in 1828, the blue version from the Caribbean was only discovered in 1916 and named Larimar in 1974 by a local man who named it after his daughter “Larissa” and the Spanish word mar meaning sea.

Atlantis was said to be part of the Dominican Republic, hence the alternative name of “Atlantis Stone.” Larimar is an uncommon crystal found only on the island of Hispaniola in the Dominican Republic. It is a Sodium Calcium Silicate Hydroxide of the silicates class of crystals. It comes in various shades of pale sky blue or turquoise (green-blue) and is translucent to opaque in appearance.

Larimar is a high vibration crystal, gentle in its action but, nevertheless, powerful. Like many pale blue crystals, it brings a sense of calm and balance and will help the user to embrace change and move through the process effortlessly. It carries a strong energetic connection to the sea and, in particular, dolphins bringing feelings of tranquillity and a sense of going with the flow of life. It can help us take back control of our lives when we have spent too long playing the martyr and help identify old patterns or programmes that made us act in that way.

It is believed that Larimar can help soulmates to find and recognise each other whilst healing any negative karma brought forward from their previous lives. It stimulates creativity and can be used as a talisman for singers to enhance and protect their voice. For those who have problems sleeping because of anxiety or bad dreams, it can help to promote restful sleep if placed next to your bed.

Larimar is not associated with any particular Goddess. However, turquoise coloured crystals are associated with Sophia, the Greek Goddess of Wisdom and Contradiction.

Larimar is not associated with any particular Angel. However, Archangel Raguel who is The Angel of Harmony and Relationships and whose name means “Friend of God” has a pale blue aura so you could use Larimar to connect with him.

Bringing Serenity

Larimar is primarily associated with the Throat Chakra (Vishuddha), relating to communication, and is from where you speak your truth and the Thymus or Higher Heart Chakra (situated between the Throat and Heart Chakras), relating to awakening higher consciousness, living your personal truth and doing so with passion and conviction.

Its secondary Chakras are the Crown Chakra (Sahasrara), relating to spiritual connection, understanding and enlightenment, and the Third Eye or Brow Chakra (Ajna), relating to insight, intuition, awareness and guidance. Within the Thymus Chakra, its vibration is said to help in forgiving those that may have caused you difficulties whilst clearing deep-seated emotional pain attached to them.

In crystal healing, Larimar is said to help with symptoms relating to the following illnesses and areas of the body: asthma, bipolar disorder, cancer, chest infections, colds and flu, emphysema, foot problems, headache, health and healing, inflammation, lymphatic system, migraine, neck health, reflexology, sinus, sunburn, throat, thyroid balance and iodine levels, toxins, tumours and water retention. It may also be used to treat skin disorders, aggravated by stress such as eczema and psoriasis.

Emotionally, Larimar is said to assist with aggression, calming, self-confidence, self-worth and serenity. It is said to encourage the development of healthy relationships with others and with yourself by removing toxic feelings such as anger and jealousy. It will also clear deep-seated emotional and remembered pain.

Spiritually, Larimar is said to aid aura cleansing and clearing, intention, prayer, release and removal of attachments and unwanted entities.

Larimar is not a traditional or ancient birthstone but is a modern birthstone for the Zodiac sign of Leo (23rd July - 22nd August).

Larimar is not on the anniversary list.

Meditation

Larimar is a perfect crystal for meditating with to achieve a deep meditative state and enhance communication with your guides and the Angelic and other realms. Use it in meditation to release attachments and bonds to other people and past commitments that no longer serve you for your greatest and highest good. It is also believed to assist in channelling ancient wisdom from Atlantis during meditation or sleep.

Affirmation: I am one with the energy of the dolphins.

Important to Know

WARNING: Larimar is extremely photosensitive and will fade quickly if left in bright sunlight, so if you are wearing it as jewellery and especially if you spend a lot of time in the sun, remember to tuck it inside your clothing. Fading reduces the value of the item.

As with all crystals you use regularly, don’t forget to cleanse and recharge it at least once a month.

For crystal healers who use crystals in their work, they should be cleansed after each client to remove any negative energy prior to being used on someone else.

PLEASE REMEMBER: Although the powers of crystals and stones are well documented and have been proven to help bring positivity into people's lives, they are never a substitute for medical advice.
