A Divine Stone

Moonstone, the “Stone of New Beginnings”, is named for its moon-like sheen. Moonstone is a common crystal found in Russia. It is composed of two minerals both from the feldspar group, Orthoclase and Albite. It comes in various shades of cream, grey, peach, tan (light brown) and white and is opaque with a silvery-white reflection or chatoyancy.

As would be expected of a crystal that is called Moonstone, knowing the effect the moon has on the tides, it is said to aid water retention, infertility, PMS and other hormonal and menstrual problems. It is a crystal of protection during pregnancy and childbirth and is known as the traveller’s stone, especially if travelling at night or by sea.

It is said to enhance sensitivity, intuition, and psychic abilities and will help in revitalising the aura. It is also said to bring strong energies of abundance to your life. In ancient history, it was said that a Moonstone was set in the forehead of the four-handed God of the moon. It is a sacred stone in India and is a traditional wedding gift as it is said to bring good fortune.

Moonstone is associated with both the Goddess Selene, the Greek Moon Goddess, and Diana, the Roman Goddess of the Moon, and Protector of Animals, the counterpart to the Greek Artemis.

Moonstone is associated with Archangel Haniel who helps us to recover the lost secrets of natural healing remedies, especially involving the harnessing of the moon’s energy in potions, powders, and crystals.

Emotionally, Moonstone is said to assist with anger diffusing or release, centring, composure, emotional balance, emotional healing, fear of the dark, happiness, harmony, hope, letting go, mood swings, nurture, positive energy, and postnatal depression.

On a spiritual level, it brings ancient knowledge and wisdom, aura balancing, aura revitalising, awareness, clairvoyance, connecting with higher realms, divine will, energy work, enhances intuition, enhancing and stimulating dreams, spiritual protection and vision quest.

Moonstone is not one of the natural birthstones, but is the traditional birthstone of June, along with Pearl. Moonstone is the crystal for those born under the Zodiac sign of Cancer,  (21st June - 22nd July).

It is on the anniversary list for the 13th Anniversary and for each succeeding multiples of 13 i.e. 26, 39, 52 etc. as it was believed to counteract the “evil” influence of the number 13.

Meditation

Moonstone is a perfect crystal for meditating with as it is believed that if this stone is held whilst meditating it can bring forward answers you need whilst trying to fit the missing pieces of your life back together. It is said to help to improve concentration and to live in the present. It is also a useful crystal to hold during past-life regression to bring forward information.

Affirmation: I am living in the present.

Important to Know

WARNING: As with all crystals you use regularly, don’t forget to cleanse and recharge it at least once a month.

For crystal healers who use crystals in their work, they should be cleansed after each client to remove any negative energy prior to being used on someone else.

PLEASE REMEMBER: Although the powers of crystals and stones are well documented and have been proven to help bring positivity into people's lives, they are never a substitute for medical advice.
