Union of Earth & Sky

Turquoise is a Stone of Protection and unites the earth and sky. Its name comes from the French word turquoise meaning Turkish Stone. Turquoise was transported to Europe from Asia via Turkey. It is a common stone found in China, Mexico, Peru, Russia and Tibet. It is a Hydrated Copper Aluminium Phosphate of the phosphates class of crystals.
It can appear partially translucent or opaque, and its colour ranges from blue, blue-green, green, green-grey and light blue. The colour comes from its copper (blue) and iron (green) content and the natural pattern it displays is due to deposits of iron oxide.
Turquenite, which is often falsely sold as Turquoise, is actually White Howlite or Magnesite dyed to resemble Turquoise and sold as a fake gemstone to resemble Turquoise.
Turquoise helps heal relationships allowing you to let go of pain, anger, bitterness, and resentment and show forgiveness, understanding and compassion to yourself and your partner. It allows honest but kind and gentle communication between lovers. Tibetan or Chinese Turquoise is greener in colour and when given as an item of jewellery is considered a promise of fidelity and protectiveness to a lover or partner.
Turquoise has been used to decorate the facades of holy sites including the Taj Mahal in India. It was used in ancient Egypt around 2000 BC in protective amulets and jewellery for the rulers such as King Tutankhamun and Cleopatra and was also added to the ceremonial masks and battle gear of the Aztecs who believed it provided protection against negative forces.
According to Hindu and Persian legend, this crystal was believed to bring good luck when it reflected the light of the new moon. It was said that if you gazed at the moon the first day after the new moon, then looked at a Turquoise, that you would enjoy an increase in wealth and also have protection from evil.
Spiritual Connection

The Apaches believed that a Turquoise attached to a bow or gun would send the arrow or bullet straight to its intended target. The Navajos and other Native American shamans used Turquoise to pray for rain and it was considered a powerful healing crystal for creating a connection between heaven and earth.
Turquoise honours many Goddesses such as Estsanatlehi, the Apache and Navajo Fertility Goddess, Wohpe, the Lakota Sioux Goddess of Peace, Harmony, Meditation and Friendship, Hathor, the Egyptian Goddess of Joy and Fertility, Ma’at, the Egyptian Goddess of Divine Harmony and Law, and Sophia, the Greek Goddess of Wisdom, as well as several other less well known Goddesses.
Archangel Sandalphon’s aura colour and corresponding gemstone are Turquoise, he is the Archangel of music and poetry and receives and delivers prayers to the Divine. He is said to be the soulmate and twin flame of Archangel Metatron.
Turquoise is primarily associated with the Throat Chakra (Vishuddha), relating to communication, and is from where you speak your truth. Its secondary chakra is the Third Eye Chakra (Ajna), relating to insight, intuition, awareness and guidance. Turquoise also resonates with the Thymus or Higher Heart Chakra (situated between the Throat and Heart Chakras), relating to awakening higher consciousness, living your personal truth and doing so with passion and conviction.
In crystal healing, Turquoise is said to help with illnesses and symptoms relating to blood oxygenation, breathing problems, cataracts and other eye disorders and infections, cramps, gout, headache, infection, migraine, pain, rheumatism and stomach problems, such as acidity. It is believed to increase growth and muscular strength and has anti-inflammatory and detoxifying effects and assists nutrient, mineral and vitamin absorption.
Emotionally, Turquoise is said to assist with empathy, friendship, kindness, mental clarity, night terrors and nightmares, peacefulness, public speaking and wisdom. It is also believed to be useful in clearing old vows that no longer serve you.
Turquoise is a modern birthstone for the Zodiac signs Scorpio (23rd October - 21st November), Sagittarius (22nd November - 21st December), and Pisces (19th February - 20th March). It is on the anniversary list as an 11th anniversary gift.

Meditation

In meditation, Turquoise is a perfect stone to help take you into a deep meditative state quite quickly, whilst protected from any negativity. It helps you increase your intuition, make use of your clairvoyant abilities and psychic visions and can assist in astral travel. It is also a useful crystal for looking back at past lives and releasing vows taken that no longer serve us.

Affirmation: I speak my truth with power and compassion.

Important to Know

WARNING: Turquoise can fade if left in direct sunlight for long periods. Its colour may also be changed by makeup, perfume, perspiration and body oils.
As with all crystals you use regularly, don’t forget to cleanse and recharge it at least once a month.

For crystal healers who use crystals in their work, they should be cleansed after each client to remove any negative energy prior to being used on someone else.
PLEASE REMEMBER: Although the powers of crystals and stones are well documented and have been proven to help bring positivity into people's lives, they are never a substitute for medical advice.
