Card Meaning

Card Number 17 of the Major Arcana is the Star. Have you ever wished upon a star? That is the stuff that romantic lore is made of. There is even a fairytale from the brothers Grimm that tells of a little girl who had such a good heart that she gave away all but her undergarment and then stars fell from the sky and turned to gold, blessing her with it.

Contrary to what religion teaches us, it does not mean, you have to live in abject poverty to be a good person. It symbolises the balance and harmony between give and take. When we only give and don’t allow ourselves to receive in equal measure, our cups run dry. Equally, if we only take and don’t give for fear of never having enough and someone else taking it all away from us, we are just as blocked in our energy.

The Star card of the tarot tells of our dreams and wishes, our deepest desires that drive us on, that make us tick. This is something different for every person, as everyone is unique. But everyone has dreams and hopes, everyone has a desire they work towards to attain its fulfilment.

The stars in the sky, when viewed at night, are a very beautiful sight to behold; and the less light pollution you have, the more you can see of its splendour. It makes you seem small on the one hand, but infinitely great on the other. It is both a humbling and elevating experience, just like that dream you have when you imagine yourself to have manifested it.

The Star is here to show you that this is about to come true. Your desire is there for the taking and your dreams can soon become a reality, if you are open to receiving that which you have worked towards and held in your heart like a mother would hold her most beloved baby cradled in her arms.

But when you give, needs be that you must also be open to receive, lest you block the flow of abundance and blessings coming your way. Think about it, you’ve walked seven miles to the nearest well because you are thirsty and when you get there, you don’t drink. That would not only be a waste of energy but would also have some dire consequences to your health. So you had better pick up that cup and drink this cool, invigorating and vitalising fresh water. And when the next runner up reaches the well, you will be stronger to pay this blessing forward by handing him or her a cup in turn.

Such it is with all of abundance in life, all of our dreams and desires. If you are not open to receive, you are going to go down with the ship and there is no one left to help. So feel joyous at the prospect of receiving such blessings and having your desires manifested at last. Be thankful and appreciate each little thing in your life as a sign that you are creating a life, rich in flow and life force, and that you are on the path to an ever more beautiful future; an ever higher expression of yourself.
