Gold has long been associated with wealth and prosperity. In many cultures it was linked to the divine and royalty. In spiritual terms, it is therefore considered to be illuminating, sacred and endurable. It is connected to the Sun and its life-giving energy and light. It is also linked to honour, wisdom and love. It has been called The Master Healer and has been used for the purification of the physical body. It prompts individuals to allow their inner light to shine forth and builds confidence as they navigate physical reality.

In Egypt, gold was extremely scarce and mined in far-off places in the Eastern Desert, the part of the Sahara Desert that is located east of the Nile River, and in Nubia. Gold was only allowed to be worn by the royal family, high priests and to adorn temples and statues of the gods. It was also used in religious rituals and in burials of the royals as it held magical properties and protected the souls of the deceased in the afterlife. Sacred animals of the gods were also portrayed as gold, such as the Cow of Hathor and the Falcon of Horus. Entire falcon mummies were sometimes gilded with gold, to underscore their association with divinity and the sun.

In Christianity, gold became the symbol of Christ’s reign on earth, and the ancient civilisations of Central and South America used it for religious rights and adornments as well. Because gold is scarce, malleable and indestructible as well as shiny, it has been used by many cultures all over the world from being a symbol of wealth and status to its use in religious rites, gifts and sacrifices.

Wedding bands are traditionally made of gold and symbolise love for eternity. The modern monetary system was based on gold which was held in vaults against the value of coin and paper currency. This system was replaced in 1971 by the Bretton Woods System, however.

Gold also possesses spiritual powers that can influence the wearer and have certain benefits and effects when worn with particular gemstones and crystals. It is an inert metal, one that doesn’t react chemically, and is therefore stable. This stability can be transferred upon the wearer and stabilise their energetic system through gold’s conductivity. Worn with certain gemstones or crystals, this can bring a balancing, harmonising effect.

Alchemists thought the Philosopher’s Stone, a mystical substance, had the power to transmute base metals such as lead into noble ones like gold and silver, embodying the magic of change and the hope of eternal wealth and health. It was not only a vehicle for material transformation, but a sacred key to immortality, echoing the divine touch of the Goddess herself. This stone was a symbol of enlightenment that twined with the material in the pursuit of spiritual ascendance, closely linked to gold.

Gold is associated with masculine energy, reflecting its warmth and has soothing vibrations which can relieve tension. It has been used in the purification and balancing of the Heart chakra, the center of love, compassion, and emotional well-being and aids in balancing the chakras and energy fields of all bodies, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. It also opens the Crown chakra and helps you gain wisdom from the Universe and your Higher Self (see my self-study course Energy System Mastery). Gold’s warm energy also harmonizes the mind, body, and spirit, encouraging balance, creativity, and a strong sense of purpose.

By transferring the vitality of companion minerals to affected areas, gold can promote healing and restore balance, amplifying the stones’ inherent properties. For example, Topaz in a gold setting disperses enchantments, while Rubies in gold absorb energy from the sun and refresh the body.

Gold's healing benefits have been recognized for thousands of years, with modern science further exploring its therapeutic properties and using compounds in modern biomedicine.

As with most crystals, you can cleanse gold with Selenite, smoke, sound, moonlight, sunlight, earth and water, but avoid using salt or any harsh chemicals.

In amulets and talismans, gold is also often used and works as a powerful protection against negative energies of any kind. Once consecrated, they hold powerful magical properties that protect the wearer and amplify their strength and psychic powers which is why shamans, mystics and priests have always cherished them since times immemorial. These items gain their strength through rituals under the moonlight, which enhances their connection with the spiritual realm and bolsters the natural defences of a person’s energy system and aura. They can also be used for places, rooms or buildings.

Gold is associated with the sun but equally resonates with the moon’s mystical aspects, fostering the balance between the feminine (the receptive, cool, and reflective energy) and masculine (the active, warm, and radiant energy).
